Automated workwear management for the Food Industry

In the food industry, workwear management is crucial to ensuring hygiene, employee protection, compliance and efficiency. Yet managing high-turnover workwear inventories is a major operational burden, with manual labor costs, numerous bottlenecks at pick-up and drop-off, frustrating delays, and lack of effective monitoring. Polytex’s full cycle workwear solution for food industries eliminates all of these issues.
BVLK, the Association of Food Safety Controllers Germany, has recognized Polytex Technologies as an official cooperation partner, further strengthening its network of organizations dedicated to food safety. FAQ

HACCP treats workwear as a contamination vector and requires documented control of it. In practice: garments must be clean at the start of every shift, zone access must be controlled at the clothing level, laundering must be documented, and records must link specific garments to specific employees, shifts, and zones. Automated workwear systems enforce and document all of this automatically.

Manual systems allow employees to wear the same garment across shifts, borrow items, or take them home — contamination pathways that can’t be tracked. Automated dispensing issues each employee a clean garment at shift start and requires return at shift end. Every dispensing is identity-verified, so the system always knows who is wearing which garment, in which zone, and when.

Automated systems generate exportable compliance reports documenting every dispensing and return event — employee ID, time, date, wash cycle status, and zone. This replaces manual signing sheets with a structured, verifiable dataset that demonstrates systematic compliance across the entire workforce. For zone-controlled facilities, the report can also confirm the correct garment type was issued per zone.

Zone-based control assigns different garment types or colours to different hygiene zones — for example, blue for raw material areas, white for clean processing. The dispensing system enforces this automatically: it only issues the correct garment for each employee’s zone and ensures garments from high-risk areas are laundered separately before re-entering circulation. Compliance becomes structural rather than behavioural.

The gains come from four areas: garment loss typically falls 30–50% when every item is RFID-tracked; laundry costs drop because only worn garments are washed; admin time spent on manual counts and compliance documentation is substantially reduced; and multi-site operations gain procurement visibility based on actual stock data rather than estimates.

Cloud-based systems give procurement and operations teams a single dashboard across all sites — real-time inventory, utilisation, and compliance status per location. Employee records and garment entitlements are managed centrally, so staff transferring between sites retain their correct access profile automatically. Group-level compliance reporting, impossible with disconnected site records, becomes straightforward.
